Minecraft Dungeons 2 Release Date, Price, Platforms and Game Pass

Minecraft Dungeons II comes out on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The Standard Edition costs $29.99 and the Deluxe Edition costs $49.99 in the US, and the game is included on day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Pre-order bonuses end the day before launch, on September 28 at 12pm PDT.

With five days to go, the sequel to Mojang’s 2020 dungeon crawler has a firm date, published prices on Steam and the Nintendo eShop, and a clear place in Microsoft’s subscription lineup. It also had a busy September: Xbox brought it to the Tokyo Game Show floor for its first hands-on showing in Japan, and it headlines the second September wave of Game Pass additions alongside Gears of War: E-Day. Here is everything that is confirmed, and what still isn’t.

When does Minecraft Dungeons 2 come out?

Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29, 2026. Mojang set the date in its gameplay reveal and date announcement, and the same date appears on the Steam listing, the Nintendo eShop pages for both Switch consoles and Microsoft’s Game Pass schedule. The official FAQ on the game’s Minecraft.net hub answers the name question too: “Minecraft Dungeons II” and “Minecraft Dungeons 2” are the same game.

Mojang and Microsoft have not published a single global unlock time on the official pages we checked as of September 24. Digital releases on console storefronts often unlock at local midnight, while PC and Game Pass releases can follow a fixed global time. Until an official time appears, plan on the game arriving on the 29th and check your platform’s store page for a countdown.

Which platforms is Minecraft Dungeons II on?

The game launches on five platforms at once:

• PC through Steam, plus the Xbox app on Windows through PC Game Pass
• Xbox Series X|S, including cloud streaming for Game Pass members
• PlayStation 5
• Nintendo Switch
• Nintendo Switch 2

Microsoft’s Game Pass announcement lists the game for “Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC”, with Handheld meaning Xbox has marked it as optimized for handheld play. Mojang’s FAQ does not mention an Xbox One or PS4 version, so this sequel is limited to current-generation consoles plus the original Switch.

How much does Minecraft Dungeons II cost?

US pricing is the same on Steam and the Nintendo eShop, and it keeps the budget pricing of the first game rather than the $69.99 standard of big-budget releases:

The Deluxe Edition’s contents come from the game’s Steam store description. The Nintendo Switch 2 eShop listing lists the Standard and Deluxe offers at the same $29.99 and $49.99 and names a “Minecraft Dungeons II Soul Pack” among its downloadable content. Mojang has not yet said what the two DLC packs in the Deluxe Edition will contain or when they will arrive.

Is the pre-order bonus still available?

Yes, until launch eve. Mojang’s terms say the pre-order offer runs “from June 6, 2026 (12pm PDT) until September 28, 2026 (12pm PDT) while supplies last”, limited to one per person or account, and that it can vary by region, platform and retailer. Every pre-order, Standard or Deluxe, gets two hero skins, the Twisted cape and the Twisted chicken pet.

Is Minecraft Dungeons II on Game Pass?

Yes, from day one, but not on every tier. Xbox Wire’s September wave 2 Game Pass roundup lists Minecraft Dungeons II for September 29 under Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, tagged “Available on day one with Xbox Game Pass!”

Game Pass Premium is not listed for launch. Microsoft’s tier rules say Premium gets new Xbox-published games “within 1 year of launch”, so Premium members should expect the game later rather than on September 29. Game Pass Essential does not include new releases on day one. At current US prices, Ultimate costs $22.99 a month and PC Game Pass $13.99 a month, following the April 2026 price cut.

Whether a subscription beats buying the game depends on your plans. At $29.99, the Standard Edition costs a little more than one month of Ultimate ($22.99) and roughly two months of PC Game Pass. If you expect to keep playing for more than a couple of months, or you play on PlayStation or Switch, buying it outright is the simpler choice.

Does Minecraft Dungeons II have co-op and crossplay?

Co-op is central to the sequel. Mojang says you can play solo or “team up with up to 3 players in online or couch co-op”, which means parties of up to four. The announcement also teases a teamwork mechanic: with a full party of four, you’ll be able to “smash any blue-charged foe with the power of teamwork.”

Two caveats from the fine print:

• Online co-op on consoles needs a paid subscription. Mojang’s terms say online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific online subscription, sold separately. On Switch and Switch 2, Nintendo’s listing says online play needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
• Cross-platform play is listed but not yet detailed. The Steam store page tags the game with “Cross-Platform Multiplayer”, “Shared/Split Screen Co-op” and “Remote Play Together”. Mojang’s own pages do not yet say which platforms can play together, so wait for the launch details before promising your PlayStation friends a crossplay night.

What is the Sift? Story and new features

The sequel’s headline addition is a second world. In the gameplay trailer shown in August, Mojang revealed that the rifts appearing across the Overworld lead to the Sift, which it calls “an entirely new dimension” with “powerful and mysterious threats as well as landscapes that will stop you in your tracks.” The Steam description puts it this way: the quest is to stop a new evil “from causing chaos in not one, but two worlds.”

The core formula stays the same. You build a hero from gear found along the way, including weapons, armor, artifacts, talismans and “other legendary gear”, and fight through hordes of mobs across Minecraft-style biomes. Mojang’s FAQ says the sequel “expands upon the weapons, enemies, and features of the first Minecraft Dungeons.” You don’t need to have played the original, though Mojang adds that “you might get a better experience out of the sequel if you do.”

A bonus for players of the first game

Returning players get a small reward. If you play both Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Dungeons II on the same Microsoft account, you unlock the Hero Cape in Dungeons II and in Minecraft: Java and Bedrock editions. Mojang notes that playing either game through Game Pass counts. The original Minecraft Dungeons came out on May 26, 2020, and was also made by Mojang Studios with Double Eleven. Its story, about the Arch-Illager and the Orb of Dominance, ran across six DLC expansions.

Minecraft Dungeons II PC system requirements

Requirements are modest by 2026 standards. Both tiers need 64-bit Windows 10 (version 1703 or newer) and DirectX 11. These figures come from the Steam listing:

Those GPUs are several generations old, so most gaming PCs and laptops built in the last five years should run the game comfortably. Steam lists the controller support as “partial”, so keyboard-and-mouse players are covered, but check the store page for how much of the game works with a controller if that matters to you.

Minecraft Dungeons II at Tokyo Game Show 2026

The game’s last big appearance before launch was in Makuhari. In its Tokyo Game Show 2026 plans, Xbox said that “following its debut at gamescom, Minecraft Dungeons II arrives for the first time at the Tokyo Game Show show floor, giving fans in Japan their first hands-on look.” The same post repeated that the game is “available to play day one with Game Pass on September 29, 2026.” Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, due October 23, was the other Xbox game playable at the show.

Tokyo was also a reminder of how wide this launch is: the original Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC all get Dungeons II on the same day, at the same US price, with Game Pass subscribers on Xbox and PC able to play it at no extra cost.

Which version should you buy?

Every platform gets the game on the same day at the same US price, so the choice mostly comes down to where your friends play and how you like to play:

• Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass member: play it at no extra cost from September 29.
• Couch co-op household: any console version supports local co-op for up to four players. Switch and Switch 2 also work in handheld mode.
• PC player without Game Pass: the Steam version is $29.99, runs on modest hardware and lists Remote Play Together for sharing local co-op online.
• Switch owners planning to upgrade: Nintendo sells separate Switch and Switch 2 listings. Buy the version for the console you will actually play on, since Nintendo’s pages do not mention an upgrade path between them.

What happens next

The next dates to watch are September 28, when the pre-order bonus window closes at 12pm PDT, and September 29, when the game unlocks on all five platforms and arrives in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. After launch, Mojang still has to announce the contents and timing of the two DLC packs promised in the Deluxe Edition. The first game’s story continued across six DLC expansions, so the Deluxe Edition’s two packs may not be the last.

For a $29.99 co-op game that is on Game Pass from day one and launches on everything from the original Switch to a Steam PC, Minecraft Dungeons II is set up to be one of the most widely available releases of the fall.
