EA Sports FC 27 Ultimate Team keeps the core squad-building loop intact but changes how far your chemistry boosters stretch, adds a new Hall of FUT card tier underneath Icons and Heroes, and swaps the old Common/Rare pack language for size-based tiers (Mini, Small, Large, Jumbo, Giant). The short version: Icons and Heroes still cover their own position for full chemistry, but their league and nation "link" bonuses have been trimmed, so the all-Icon, zero-effort chemistry squads of past years are harder to build. This guide walks through what EA has actually confirmed for FUT 27 — chemistry rules, card types, SBCs, packs and the economy — plus general strategy context for building a squad in the opening weeks.

Everything below is compiled from EA's own FC 27 Launch Update Pitch Notes and EA Help's official support pages. Where a claim is general strategy rather than an EA-confirmed fact, it's flagged as such. If you still need the basics on editions, price and launch windows, that's covered separately rather than here.

FUT 27 at a glance
  • Web App went live September 16, 2026, 17:00 UTC; Companion App followed September 17.
  • Early access (Ultimate/Ultimate Plus editions): September 17–18, 2026; worldwide launch September 25.
  • Icons and Heroes now give +1 (not +2) to their secondary link; Hall of FUT follows Hero rules.
  • Season 1 "Ones to Watch" runs September 17 to October 22, 2026.
  • Common/Rare labels are gone; packs are now sized Mini, Small, Large, Jumbo and Giant.

What's actually new in FUT 27 versus FC 26

EA's FC 27 news hub and its Launch Update pitch notes group the FUT 27 changes into a handful of buckets: chemistry rebalancing around special items, a new Hall of FUT card tier, Holographic item variants starting with Team of the Week 1, a community-voted TOTW player slot, a reworked Ones to Watch promo, a streamlined Squad Building Challenge (SBC) format, the removal of the Common/Rare rarity split in favor of pack-size naming, and changes to how quickly Coins and Season Points accumulate. None of this touches the base idea of Ultimate Team — pack players, build a squad, earn chemistry, compete in Rivals, Champions and Squad Battles — but several of the specifics below are worth knowing before you open your first pack.

How chemistry actually works in FUT 27

The fundamentals carry over from recent entries: a starting XI player contributes chemistry only when played in or near their listed position, and special-tier cards (Icons, Heroes, Hall of FUT) are exempt from the position requirement for their own chemistry point — they're always "in position." What's changed for FUT 27 is how much those special cards boost the players around them.

According to EA's pitch notes, Icons and Heroes keep full personal chemistry regardless of position, but their link contribution to teammates has been cut in one dimension each:

Card typeOwn-position chemistryLeague link to teammatesNation link to teammates
IconFull, any position+1 to every league (unchanged)+1 (down from +2)
HeroFull, any position+1 (down from +2)+1 (unchanged)
Hall of FUTFull, any positionFollows Hero rulesFollows Hero rules

EA also confirms that other "Special Items" — campaign and promo cards that previously carried boosted chemistry stats — will get that boost less often, with the stated aim of making the boosts "feel meaningful when they appear" rather than routine. Practically, that means the strategy of stacking three or four Icons from the same nation purely for a free chemistry blanket is weaker than it was in FC 26; you'll need slightly more league and nation overlap from your regular squad to hit max chemistry.

Icons, Heroes and the new Hall of FUT tier

Base Icon items start at 88 OVR in FUT 27, with refreshed attributes and PlayStyles compared to FC 26's base Icon items, per EA's pitch notes. Heroes remain the tier below Icons, built around players remembered for a standout spell at a club or in a specific league rather than an entire career.

Hall of FUT is the genuinely new piece: a tier that sits alongside Heroes, made up of base items obtainable through the in-game Token Store, with special "Campaign" versions arriving in packs later in the season. EA's own pre-order support page confirms Hall of FUT with a concrete example — pre-order buyers could choose one Hall of FUT Player Pick from a set that included Adebayo Akinfenwa, Giovani dos Santos, Loïc Rémy, Marouane Fellaini and Eljero Elia. Base Hall of FUT items can also feed into Evolutions once they meet an Evolution's requirements, the same as other eligible cards.

Holographic items, the community TOTW slot and Ones to Watch

Three new or reworked card mechanics are worth tracking from week one:

  • Holographic items: Starting with Team of the Week 1, items rated 87 OVR and below that appear on TOTW get a "Regular Holographic" treatment, while 88 OVR and above get "Pristine Holographic." Packs that guarantee a fixed set of specific items don't include the holographic versions.
  • TOTW Community Player: For each of the first six TOTW squads, the community votes on one included player item. Voting opened September 14, 2026, and runs weekly until Monday 11:59 p.m. PT.
  • Ones to Watch (Season 1): Items rated 83 OVR or higher keep their base attributes; anything lower is boosted up to 83 OVR, and every OTW item gets at least 60 Pace. Cards gain +1 OVR for each Team of the Week, Star Performer or Player of the Month inclusion the real player earns, plus a one-time +1 OVR if their club wins three of its next six domestic league matches after September 18, 2026.

Destined for Glory and campaign content

EA's first confirmed post-launch campaign, Destined for Glory, began September 25, 2026, led by Kylian Mbappé alongside Morgan Rogers, Matheus Fernandes, Alexander Isak and Bryan Mbeumo, with campaign squads running 15 players per week. EA's pitch notes also flag a structural change to the campaign calendar: there are roughly five fewer dedicated Campaign weeks across the season than in FC 26, with that time instead going to a new "Series" format that starts in Season 3, in December 2026.

Squad Building Challenges move to a format EA calls "Streamlined SBCs": instead of submitting one complete squad in a single shot, you contribute items toward a target score across multiple submissions. This version is available on console and PC at launch, with a Companion App version following later in Season 1.

Pack structure also changes cosmetically but meaningfully for new players: the Common and Rare rarity distinction is removed entirely, and packs are now described by size — Mini, Small, Large, Jumbo and Giant — rather than by the old rarity-plus-size naming. EA states the odds of pulling a base item at 82 OVR or below should be in line with FC 26's comparable pack sizes, so the underlying pack economy isn't being quietly nerfed alongside the rename.

The FUT Gallery is new for FC 27: EA describes over 100 Sets available at launch, where collecting specific groups of items earns Club Customisation rewards, and higher-graded Sets earn Gallery Tokens. The first post-launch Set — Season 1 (Combined Rarities) — arrives at worldwide launch on September 25.

Coins, Season Points and reward changes

EA's pitch notes describe a reworked rewards economy for FUT 27 competitive modes:

SystemFC 27 change (per EA)
FUT Coins (Rivals/Champions)EA says these modes can reward "several times more" Coins than FC 26's roughly 500–600 per match; Squad Battles payouts also increase.
Season Points15 to 100 points per eligible match, capped at 850 per day.
PlayStyles+Maximum PlayStyles+ per card reduced from five to three.
Champions structureA 15-match Finals format; the old Division 6 qualification requirement is removed, and Champions Qualification Points can now also be earned through Rivals and Squad Battles.
Division 1 Upgraded Rewards95,000 Coins, a 4x 84+ Gold Players Pack, a 5x 83+ Gold Players Pack, 1-of-5 83+ Gold Players pick, a Giant Gold Pack and a TOTW Player Pack.

Early squad-building strategy: general guidance, not an official meta

EA doesn't publish a "meta," so treat this section as general strategy thinking rather than anything confirmed by the pitch notes above. With league and nation links from Icons and Heroes worth less than in FC 26, the most efficient early squads tend to lean on real-world domestic leagues where you can cluster three or four players who share both league and nation — English, Spanish and Italian top-flight squads are usually the deepest pools for this at launch, simply because the card count is highest. Mixing in one or two Hall of FUT or Hero cards for a position you're short on is reasonable, but don't expect them to single-handedly glue together a squad full of mismatched leagues the way an Icon-heavy chemistry trick might have in previous years.

It's also worth building around the Ones to Watch promo rather than against it in the first month: because OTW cards can gain permanent rating upgrades through the season, an early OTW squad can get meaningfully stronger for free if you're patient, which is a different calculation than packing a maxed-out Team of the Week card that will never improve.

Pre-order editions and Ultimate Team bonuses

Per EA Help's official pre-order rewards page, Ultimate Team bonuses varied by edition. The Ultimate Edition included an 85+ OVR International ICON Pack (for pre-orders placed by August 31, 2026), an additional Ultimate Team Player Evolution slot, 6,000 FC Points delivered across three monthly drops, and a 93+ OVR Icon player item (with a 1-of-4 Player Pick version for pre-orders by the same date). The since-closed Ultimate Plus Edition added a Hall of FUT Player Pick, 10,000 FC Points across five monthly drops and up to seven days of early access. These were pre-order-specific and are no longer obtainable at full value after their respective cutoff dates, so don't expect to replicate them through a standard purchase now.

Using the Web App and Companion App to get ahead

EA's official Web and Companion App support page confirms the FC 27 Web App is a browser-based tool for managing your Ultimate Team Club — opening packs, running the Transfer Market and building squads — without needing the full game open. It went live September 16, 2026 at 17:00 UTC, with the FC 27 Companion App (iOS/Android) following on September 17. Both log in with the same EA Account you use in-game. Early access to these tools before full launch required having logged into Ultimate Team and created a Club in FC 26, FC 25 or FC 24 before August 1, 2026, on an account in good standing; EA also notes that after November 7, 2026, 11:59:50 p.m. UTC, you need to have logged into Ultimate Team in FC 27 itself on console or PC at least once to keep using either app.

Common questions about FUT 27

A few of the most practical questions new and returning Ultimate Team players are asking this launch window:

  • Do I need to rebuild my chemistry strategy from scratch? Not from scratch — the position-based fundamentals are the same. You mainly need to account for Icons and Heroes giving a smaller secondary link bonus than before.
  • Is Hall of FUT the same as Heroes? No — it's a separate, new tier that sits alongside Heroes and follows the same chemistry rules, but it's sourced through the Token Store and later Packs rather than being an upgraded Hero card.
  • Are Common and Rare cards gone? The rarity label is gone; the cards themselves aren't. EA now describes pack contents by pack size (Mini through Giant) instead.

What's next for FUT 27

With Season 1 Ones to Watch running through October 22, 2026, and Destined for Glory already underway, the next things worth watching are how EA tunes Streamlined SBC targets once Season 1 live data comes in, and whether the Companion App version of Streamlined SBCs lands on schedule later in the season. The FUT Gallery's first post-launch Set gives an early read on how fast EA expects players to accumulate Gallery Tokens, which will likely shape how generous — or stingy — later Sets turn out to be. Frequently asked questions

Did FUT 27 chemistry change from FC 26?

The base position-chemistry system is the same, but Icons and Heroes now give a smaller secondary link bonus: Icons' Nation link drops from +2 to +1, and Heroes' League link drops from +2 to +1, per EA's official pitch notes.

What is Hall of FUT in EA FC 27?

Hall of FUT is a new card tier alongside Heroes, with base items available through the Token Store and special Campaign versions arriving in Packs later in the season. It follows the same chemistry rules as Heroes.

Are Common and Rare cards removed in FC 27?

The rarity labels are removed, but the underlying cards are not. EA now describes packs by size instead — Mini, Small, Large, Jumbo and Giant — and says base-item odds at 82 OVR and below should match comparable FC 26 packs.

When does the FC 27 Web App work?

EA's Web App went live September 16, 2026 at 17:00 UTC, with the Companion App following on September 17. Both require logging in with the EA Account used to play FC 27.

What is Streamlined SBCs in FUT 27?

It is a new Squad Building Challenge format where you contribute items toward a target score across multiple submissions instead of one full squad in a single submission. It is available on console and PC at launch.

How does Ones to Watch work this year?

Items 83 OVR or higher keep their base attributes; lower-rated items are boosted to 83 OVR, and every item has at least 60 Pace. Cards can then gain permanent +1 OVR increases through Team of the Week, Star Performer or Player of the Month inclusions.
