EA Sports FC 27 Out Now: Launch Times, Editions, Price and What’s New

EA Sports FC 27 is out worldwide today, 25 September 2026. It unlocked on PC at 23:00 UTC on 24 September and on consoles at midnight local time, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. On Steam in the US the Standard Edition costs $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99. The big new addition is The Grounds, an open-world hub for Clubs. There is also a free-to-download FC 27 Lite trial, available from 16:00 UTC today.

What time did EA Sports FC 27 release?

EA’s FC 27 launch update gives two unlock rules. On PC, the game went live everywhere at the same moment: 24 September at 23:00 UTC. That was 7pm Eastern and 4pm Pacific on the 24th in North America, and midnight on the 25th in the UK. On PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles it unlocked at 00:00 local time on 25 September, so each region got it at its own midnight.

Anyone who has played this week didn’t wait for either time. EA ran a staggered launch in the days before release:

• 16 September, 17:00 UTC: the FC 27 Web App went live, so Ultimate Team players could manage clubs and the transfer market in a browser.
• 17 September, 17:00 UTC: the Companion App refresh went live on mobile.
• 17 September, 23:00 UTC: Ultimate Edition early access started on PC, and EA Play Pro members got the full game.
• 18 September, 00:00 local time: Ultimate Edition early access started on every other platform.
• 18 September, 04:00 UTC: the 10-hour EA Play trial opened.

Your early-access progress carries straight into the full launch. EA’s press release also says progress from the EA Play trial carries over to the full game, so trial players can pick up their season where they stopped.

How much does EA Sports FC 27 cost?

You can buy two editions from today. The EA Sports FC 27 Steam store page lists the Standard Edition at $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 in the US. Console storefronts set their own local prices, so check your platform’s store for regional pricing. EA Play members get 10% off EA digital purchases, and EA says that includes the full game and FC Points.

The third edition, Ultimate Plus, is gone. It was only sold during the early-bird pre-order window from 23 July to 31 August 2026, and never on Nintendo platforms or the Epic Games Store. EA also confirms that Ultimate Edition owners cannot upgrade to Ultimate Plus.

Buying the Ultimate Edition now still gets you the 6,000 FC Points. According to EA’s editions and release dates FAQ, the first grant arrives the first time you log in to Ultimate Team. Later drops land on the 15th of each following month. EA’s terms set deadlines: you have to claim the first Ultimate Edition distribution by 1 August 2027 to get the full 6,000. If you redeem after 26 September 2027, you get no points.

The pre-order bonuses ended when the game launched. That includes the untradeable 93+ OVR ICON player item for FC 26’s Ultimate Team and the Career Mode extras that came with Standard Edition pre-orders. The Ultimate Edition’s own content stays in the box: the extra Evolution slot, three ICONs or Heroes for Career, the 5-star coach and scouts, and The Grounds cosmetics.

Which platforms is FC 27 on, and is there a free upgrade?

FC 27 is out on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC (EA app, Steam and Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. EA says you can move from PS4 to PS5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, at no extra cost. The disclaimers for the Ultimate Edition add that buying on one Xbox or PlayStation generation gives you both versions.

The versions are not the same, though. The Grounds, and Clubs with it, runs only on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. On PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch, any bonus content tied to The Grounds, such as the Signature Sweatsuit and the Mbappé-inspired Amp, can’t be used. If you mostly play Clubs, you need current-generation hardware or a PC. On PC, EA’s Steam listing recommends a Ryzen 7 2700X or Core i7-6700, an RX 5600 XT or GTX 1660, 12GB of RAM and an SSD for 1080p at 60fps on the Medium preset. The listing also says to set aside 100GB of storage.

What is The Grounds in FC 27?

The Grounds is the headline feature this year, and EA now calls it the new home of Clubs. According to EA’s overview of The Grounds, it is an open-world football playground for up to 100 players, split across three districts based on the UK, France and Argentina. It sits just outside each Club’s clubhouse and stadium. Everything you play there feeds into your Pro’s progression.

Alongside the usual League and Playoff matches and Rush, The Grounds adds small-sided formats. These include 1v1s, 2v2s and 3v3s, plus “kickabouts” that mix football with other sports such as dodgeball, basketball and bocce. Matches on the sidelines are live, so you can spectate friends or scout recruits in real time. Stadium access points around the map drop you into Stadium Rush or 11v11. EA’s pitch is that you no longer need a full squad online to enjoy Clubs.

Pro progression has two new systems, Amps and Masteries:

• Amps add a signature ability to an archetype for a limited number of matches. EA’s example is a left back with a Roberto Carlos-style Powershot. Higher-tier Signature Amps are modelled on real players. EA says Amps won’t grant PlayStyle+ at launch, and resetting a build costs no Grounds Coins.
• Masteries make you level up related archetypes before you can fully master one. For example, a striker who wants an incisive pass has to spend time in midfield first.

Each district has a mentor for new players: Paulo Dybala, Chloe Kelly and Kylian Mbappé. Early access began with a Classic Stadium 11v11 Club Tournament. The first live event after launch, European Nights, is themed on UEFA Champions League Matchdays 2 and 3 and comes with Amps inspired by Zidane, Maldini and Bale. What’s new in Ultimate Team?

EA has changed Football Ultimate Team more than usual this year. It says the changes respond to player feedback on how fast items became outdated and how much of the mode depended on packs. The launch notes list these changes:

• More tradeable rewards and bigger coin payouts. EA says a “significantly higher proportion” of rewards will be tradeable. In FC 26, a Rivals or Champions match typically paid out about 500 to 600 coins. In FC 27, those modes can pay “several times more”, and each eligible match also awards 15 to 100 Season Points, up to 850 a day.
• Slower upgrade pacing. The maximum number of PlayStyles+ on an item drops from five to three. There are about five fewer campaign weeks across the year, with smaller campaign squads.
• No more Common/Rare split. Packs have been renamed with size words such as Mini, Small, Large, Jumbo and Giant. EA says the odds of a base item at 82 OVR or lower are meant to match similar FC 26 packs.
• Chemistry tweaks. ICONs now give +1 to their nation instead of +2, and Heroes give +1 to their league instead of +2.
• Base ICONs start at 88 OVR. A new Hall of FUT tier honours cult favourites from past Ultimate Team games.
• Holographic items. Special cards rated 87 OVR and below can appear as Regular Holographics, and 88 and above as Pristine Holographics.
• FUT Gallery. A collection system with more than 100 Sets at launch. Items count towards Sets even after they leave your club.
• Champions access. You can now earn Champions Qualification Points in both Rivals and Squad Battles, and the Division 6 requirement has been removed.

Season 1, Ones to Watch, runs from 17 September to 22 October 2026. The first post-launch campaign, Destined for Glory, starts today. It is led by cover star Kylian Mbappé, and its player items can upgrade all season based on real-world league performances.

Career Mode and gameplay changes

The EA launch announcement says Career Mode has a rebuilt transfer market. AI clubs now bid actively, and player values are informed by the scouting platform TransferRoom. New negotiation options include performance clauses and buy-back clauses. Dynamic OVRs now reflect a player’s form, morale and fitness across every club.

Manager Live, the challenge-based side of Career Mode, now has a standalone web portal where players can create and share their own challenges. Launch challenges include “Top at Christmas” (lead your league at Christmas) and “Rio’s Rising”, built around Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha. Season 1 adds Kaká, Antonio Di Natale, Alessandro Del Piero, Raúl and Robin van Persie as ICONs for both Player and Manager Career.

On the pitch, EA describes “more fluid, true-to-life gameplay”, with dynamic corners, better attacking awareness and player-focused defending built for competitive play. How well that works in ranked play will only become clear after a few weeks of patches.

“FC 27 is the biggest football experience we’ve ever delivered, with more ways for every fan to find their place in The World’s Game.”

Can you play FC 27 for free? FC 27 Lite and EA Play

You can, in two ways.

FC 27 Lite is a free download that goes live today at 16:00 UTC on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, the EA app, Steam and the Epic Games Store. It isn’t listed for either Switch. It includes only four modes: Kick-Off, Learn to Play, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons. You need a constant internet connection and an EA account. You can upgrade to the full game at any time.

Leagues, licences and soundtrack

EA says FC 27 has more than 21,000 players from over 800 clubs and national teams, 140 stadiums and more than 35 leagues, backed by over 300 football partners. What happens next

The next dates are already on EA’s calendar. Destined for Glory runs from today. Season 1 ends on 22 October. European Nights and Screaming Grounds will run in The Grounds through October. EA says the first Ultimate Team “Series”, a themed stretch with no new special items in packs, arrives in Season 3 in December. EA has also promised more Pitch Notes, including a Launch Rewards update this week.
