ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: Every Plan and Price Compared

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all start free and all charge about $20 a month for their main paid plan: ChatGPT Plus is $20, Claude Pro is $20 (or $17 a month billed annually) and Google AI Pro is $19.99. The differences are in the cheaper and pricier tiers around that price point, which models each plan unlocks, and what else is bundled, from Google’s 5 TB of storage to Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex. Here is how every consumer plan compares as of September 24, 2026, using each company’s official pricing pages.

ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: price comparison table

All prices are US monthly prices before tax, taken from the ChatGPT pricing page, Claude’s plans and pricing page and Google’s Gemini subscriptions page.

The three companies have converged on almost identical structures at the top end. Each now sells a roughly $100 plan with five times the usage of its $20 plan and a roughly $200 plan with 20 times the usage. Google’s version arrived at Google I/O on May 19, 2026, when it introduced a $100 AI Ultra plan and cut the top AI Ultra price from $250 to $200, according to its announcement of the new Google AI subscriptions.

What do you get for free?

ChatGPT Free

OpenAI’s free tier advertises unlimited text chats with GPT-5.6 Luna (subject to abuse guardrails), plus limited uploads, image generation, voice chats, deep research, memory, Codex access and access to ChatGPT Work on the desktop app. Following the September 22 launch of GPT-6 Sol and Luna, OpenAI says Free users can also use the newer GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app. The pricing page lists a 27K-token context window for the fast “Instant” model on Free.

Claude Free

Anthropic’s free plan covers chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation and code execution, memory, connectors, Artifacts, voice mode and up to five Projects. It includes the Sonnet and Haiku models but not Opus or Fable. Claude Code, Claude in Chrome, the Research feature and Claude Design are paid-only.

Gemini Free

Google’s free tier includes access to Gemini 3.6 Flash, “varying access” to Gemini 3.1 Pro, image generation and editing, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas, Gems, limited Google Flow access and the Gemini Notebook research assistant. It also comes with the standard 15 GB of Google account storage.

Budget plans: ChatGPT Go vs Google AI Plus

Anthropic does not sell a plan below Claude Pro, so the budget fight is between OpenAI and Google.

• ChatGPT Go ($8 a month) adds more messages with tools, more uploads, more image creation, more voice chats and longer memory than Free, and raises the Instant model’s context window to 54K tokens. OpenAI notes that the plan “may include ads.”
• Google AI Plus ($4.99 a month) gives twice the Gemini usage limits of Free, video generation, Daily Brief, 200 Google Flow credits, Gemini in Gmail and other Google apps, and 400 GB of cloud storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos. Google says AI Plus is available in more than 160 countries and territories.

On paper, Google AI Plus is the better value if you already live in Google’s apps, because the storage alone is a meaningful part of the price. ChatGPT Go is the cheaper route to more ChatGPT usage without paying for Plus.

The $20 plans: ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro vs Google AI Pro

ChatGPT Plus ($20)

Plus is the plan where OpenAI’s GPT-6 models appear. The pricing page promises “advanced reasoning models with GPT-6,” expanded deep research, memory and context, Projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs, expanded Codex usage and access to ChatGPT Work across desktop, web and mobile. Reasoning models get a 256K-token context window on Plus. OpenAI’s help center says it does not offer annual billing for Go, Plus or Pro.

Claude Pro ($20, or $17 a month annually)

Claude Pro unlocks Anthropic’s Opus models, including Claude Opus 5.5, released on September 22, and includes Claude Code, Claude Science, Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365, Research, and Claude Design, Slides and Docs. Anthropic’s top Fable model is available on Pro only through paid usage credits. It is also the only one of the three $20 plans whose pricing page lists an annual discount, which brings it to $17 a month.

Google AI Pro ($19.99)

Google’s pitch is the bundle. Alongside four times the Free usage limits and more access to Gemini 3.1 Pro, AI Pro includes 5 TB of cloud storage, Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Vids, 1,000 Google Flow credits for video creation, higher limits for Google’s Jules coding agent, entry-level access to the Google Antigravity development platform, Chrome auto browse, a Google Home Premium Standard plan and YouTube Premium Lite. Google’s September plan update added Google Pics image editing in Workspace and Sheets canvas for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

The $100 and $200 plans: ChatGPT Pro vs Claude Max vs Google AI Ultra

These plans are aimed at people who hit usage caps every day, mostly developers and heavy researchers.

• ChatGPT Pro starts at $100 a month for five times Plus usage and adds “Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra,” maximum Codex tasks, maximum deep research, and unlimited, faster image creation. The pricing page lists a 128K Instant context window and 400K for reasoning models. The $200 tier with 20 times Plus usage still exists, but OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro tiers help article says that as of September 10, 2026 it is “temporarily pausing new sign-ups and upgrades” to it. Existing subscribers keep it, and some lapsed subscribers can return once during the pause.
• Claude Max costs $100 a month for Max 5x or $200 for Max 20x, billed monthly only. Anthropic’s pricing table gives both tiers the same feature list, including higher output limits, early access to advanced features, priority access at high-traffic times and use of Fable within 50% of weekly limits; prices are confirmed on Anthropic’s Max plan help page and pricing table.
• Google AI Ultra costs $99.99 a month for five times AI Pro usage or $199.99 for 20 times, and adds first access to Deep Think and the Gemini Spark agent in select countries, 10,000 or 25,000 Flow credits, higher Antigravity limits, Project Genie, cloud storage starting at 20 TB, Google Home Premium Advanced and a full YouTube Premium individual plan.

If you can sign up for only one $200 plan today, note that ChatGPT’s is effectively closed to new customers, while Claude Max 20x and Google AI Ultra at $199.99 are available.

Do they train on your chats?

On ChatGPT and Claude consumer plans, conversations can be used to improve the models unless you opt out. ChatGPT’s pricing page lists “opt-out available” for content being used to train models on Free, Go, Plus and Pro. Anthropic’s plan table marks model training as “opt-out” on Free, Pro and both Max tiers, while its Team plan says there is “no model training on your content by default.” If this matters to you, check the data controls in each app’s settings after you sign up.

What about teams and businesses?

All three sell business versions with admin controls. Anthropic lists the most detail publicly: Claude Team standard seats cost $20 per seat per month billed annually or $25 monthly, premium seats with five times the usage cost $100 annually or $125 monthly, and Enterprise is $20 per seat per month billed annually plus usage at API rates. OpenAI says ChatGPT Business is available starting at two users, with Enterprise sold through its sales team. Google sells Gemini through Google Workspace and Gemini Enterprise, which are priced separately from the consumer Google AI plans.

Recent plan changes to know about

Several of these plans changed in the past few weeks, which is worth knowing before you subscribe:

• ChatGPT Pro $200 pause (September 10): new sign-ups and upgrades to the 20x Pro tier are paused; the $100 tier is unaffected.
• Google AI plan update (September 9): Google added voice drafting in Gmail, Docs and Keep, Google Pics, Sheets canvas and Gemini Spark connections to Chrome and Google Photos, with availability varying by plan and country, according to its fall AI plans post.
• Claude usage limits (September 22): with the launch of Claude Opus 5.5, Anthropic says it raised five-hour usage limits on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans and gave subscribers a one-time rate limit reset they can save for later.
• New models in ChatGPT (September 22): GPT-6 Sol and Luna arrived in ChatGPT Work and Codex for paid plans, though not yet in the standard Chat mode.

Which AI subscription should you choose?

• Choose ChatGPT Plus if you want OpenAI’s GPT-6 models, custom GPTs and scheduled tasks, and Codex for coding.
• Choose Claude Pro if you mainly write, analyze documents or code, want Claude Code in the same subscription, or want the $17-a-month annual price.
• Choose Google AI Pro if you use Gmail, Docs and Drive heavily or were already paying for Google storage; 5 TB and YouTube Premium Lite are in the price.
• On a tight budget, Google AI Plus at $4.99 and ChatGPT Go at $8 are the only options below $20.
• For heavy daily use, the $100 tiers from all three companies now offer five times the standard plan’s usage for the same price, so the choice comes down to which assistant you prefer.

Bottom line

At $20 a month, the three big AI assistants cost the same, and the right choice depends more on ecosystem than price. Google bundles the most extras, Anthropic is the only one advertising an annual discount, and OpenAI offers the widest spread of plans, from $8 Go to Pro. Prices and model line-ups are changing quickly: this week alone brought Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol and Luna, so check the official pricing pages before you commit to an annual plan.
